The trick is knowing what a real owner looks like in data. "Business partner" is not a partner and "assistant to the president" is not the president; Buzzlist excludes those known false positives. Support and junior roles such as technicians, coordinators and schedulers are ranked lower when you ask for the person in charge.
For practices and firms, Buzzlist can also check the company: an eye practice is confirmed by the number of specialists on staff, and a tiny practice is recognised by its own name. That keeps a juice bar with "vision" in its name out of an ophthalmology list.
Every search reports how many of the matches are owners and decision makers, so you know before you export whether you are looking at the buying committee or the front desk.
