The distances come from the US Census centre point of every ZIP, so a 25 mile radius around 60504 picks up Naperville, Aurora and the towns around them without you listing a single one.
You can also exclude ZIPs, cities, states, industries and job titles you never want to see, which is usually what turns a broad list into a usable one.
